Fundamentally, as a non-Christian I believe God is beyond male or female, and if we could view him in his most ultimate form in the higher dimensions where he lives, he would look a lot like that Gustave Dore painting of the Divine Comedy of a swirling vortex, that we could communicate with telepathically.

I refer to God as male out of habit from my Christian upbringing though. Nevertheless, I believe that Christians who insist that their religion teaches that God is genderless are fooling themselves, they're clearly backpedaling and poorly attempting to justify their religion after being exposed to the true argument from proper followers of the truth, that is, Gnostics, Dharmics, New Religious Movements, etc. Our argument is that an all-powerful Creative Intelligence can't possibly be shoehorned into our conception of gender.

But it's clear in all the depictions of God in the Bible (and in the Sacred Tradition of the liturgical churches, if you're of that tradition) that God is continually described as male, so to be a Christian (or a Jew) is to believe that God is male.

Neither. God is a spirit, and a spirit has no flesh or bones, therefore, God cannot be male nor female in physical form. God is not a human. Christians believe God expressed himself in physical form, though, through his son, Jesus Christ.
