British vs. American English — It's a constant source of friction for a global news operation. "Fights" become "rows," prepositions get dropped, and labor gets spelled with a "u." American editors like me become constant scolds.

I think British English is pretty weird, comical at times but how the British string words together is definitely unique.

I (try to) speak neutral Standard International English -- with a hint of a Finnish accent on the fricatives, and some American twang, courtesy of American missionaries from whose instructive education I benefited from as a child in South America.

For the longest time, however, I tried to stick to British spelling, now I seem to go back and forth, at least on fora. Don't ask me why.

As for "speaking gay", the answer is yes, whatever the question actually means.

And lately I have been putting up a sincere effort into mastering the Queen's English, by reading literature and highlighting words, idioms, etc.
Actually I was taught proper English (I got the Cambridge degree in English proficiency) but then I went to an American College and got accustomed to the filthy language that is American English

With the exception that some of our words are dying out there with the younger generations. How many younger people do you know still use the word "chesterfield"? And we never used to use the word "soda" but always "pop" or, in my generation especially, "soft drink".

Gah............how depressing. Buh-bye Canadianisms!
