There isn't anything particularly controversial about banning Neo-Nazi groups.

The media will and does argue that Nationalism in general is neo-Nazism. The definition of Nazism is so loose that schools in Britain have tried to convince kids that UKIP is a Nazi party.

A ban of National Socialism/Neo-Nazism is equivalent to an outright ban on Nationalism as a whole.

I agree this kind of legislation has already gone too far, and politicians such as Theresa May are afraid of real democracy which is why they are trying to control future choices with these artificial 'British Values'.
