Some people are traditional about the term 'Cockney' amongst East End Londoners,
as meaning those who were born within earshot of Bow Bells,
the bells of St Mary-le-Bow in the eastern Cheapside district of the City of London.
More recently, it is variously used to refer to those who were born and bred in London's East End,
and who speak with a Cockney accent and who proudly use Cockney rhyming slang.
Popular UK TV soap operas such as Eastenders and famous East End gangsters
such as The Kray Twins are often associated with Cockney's.
