Default Which Roman Emperor would you be?

If you had to pick a Roman Emperor to be, at the beginning of his reign, which would it?

Mine would be any of the Julio-Claudians except the following: Augustus (who never had a start to his reign), Tiberius (who had an impossible act to follow), and Claudius (because he had no real power).

Good grief, you take out the three good of the Julio-Claudian rulers and leave only Caligula and his nephew Nero.

    Epic.

And I'm going to grab both of them for myself, as I have Caligula's ethics and Nero's good looks and musical talent.

Caligula for his Isis-worship, sense of the absurd and sexual depravity, Nero for his using Christians as human torches for dinner parties ("the only good Christian, is a dead Christian.") and Marcus Aurelius' stoic philosophy and witty-aphorisms. Can't choose just one. Claudius was smart, because he stayed out of the way so as not to get murdered. He was also apparently really absent minded. When it turned out that his wife was cheating on him and plotted to kill him, he had her killed. A few weeks later at dinner, he asked someone, "Will my wife be joining us this evening?"

I was all ready to post, "Caligula or Nero" but I see I was not the first to think of those.

Sorry, I know it is an abuse of moderating privileges, but I had to add a poll to this thread.

Tiberius was a GOOD Roman Emperor!?

He fled responsibilities in Rome, went on vacation in Capri where he cavorted with his child-lovers, Rome almost completely collapsed in his absence, he murdered Caligula's whole family... etc.

Default Which Roman Emperor would I be ?

MARCVS AVRELIVS, decent, level-headed, and thoughtful. He obviously wrote his Meditations for posterity, knowing that they would not be taken seriously by his contemporaries. Yet, there is much good sense there, mingled with the inevitable cynicism of a man who had to deal with Roman politicians and had no illusions about them.

    Julian or Marcus Aurelius
    5 Stages of Grief:

Denial: The initial stage: "It can't be happening." Maniot is on top of me.
Anger: "Why ME? It's not fair?!" (either referring to God, oneself, or Maniot perceived, rightly or wrongly, as "responsible")
Bargaining: "Just let me stay to post another day Maniot, please."
Depression: "I'm so sad, why are you picking on me Maniot?"
Acceptance: "It's going to be OK." There is always Skadi.

Marcus Aurelius, I would like the challenge of trying to lay the foundation to preserve the Roman Empire during its time of troubles. Though it probably wouldn't have been possible..
