Oh it isn't just American's who they want reparations from, they also want Europeans to pay. They would and do make the argument that Europe benefited just as much from American slavery economically and made it possible hence they are also responsible.

I don't think anyone takes this seriously, since it really makes no sense. How do you even put a price on anything that "should" be paid back?...and how much should the natives be getting, since all of their land was taken?

There is a somewhat similar issue in Canada - there is some push for the government to pay back the "head tax" which Chinese people immigrating to Canada had to pay in the early 1900's. So far an appology has been issued and people who actually paid the tax (not their grandchildren) can get ~$20,000...but there are only 20 of those left, which means it's really just a symbolic gesture. I doubt this will go much further.

The reparations which they seek have been paid. They were paid in the blood of 360,000 Union soldiers. These academics have conveniently forgotten the
sacrifices which these men made in bringing slavery to an end, in liberating the slaves from their bondage.

To demand further reparations 145 years later is crass ingratitude and an insult to the memory of the men who spilled their blood on the battlefields of the Civil War. To whom are these reparations due ? Is there one person living who was born in slavery in this country ? Or, for that matter , is there one person living in this country who has owned slaves ?

Inasmuch as both questions must be answered in the negative, the issue of reparations is a non-issue .

exactly the majority of whites in the west are not related to the slave masters of the colonial period, less than 8 percent of the whites in the west have there blood lines to slave masters.
Italian, greek, German, fin, russian, polish whites owe slavery dues to blacks???!!! come on the majority of white came in the lat 19th century and early 20th century,

blacks were part of the slave trade and there were freed blacks who never were bound, its bullshit and i suppose its not even worth fighting over unless they really try to pillage the coffers,

Reparations is a stupid idea. Every race has been persecuted or been the persecutor at one point in time in history, so if we're doling out reparations everybody on earth would be giving and receiving.

But they're picky and choosey. Like Chinese got their reparations for the head tax. Whatever. But other ethnic groups have been treated badly in Canada as well. Canadians of German and Ukranian ancestry were put in internment camps in this country, they never saw anything. Natives never got anything. My people were stripped of all their worldly possessions, expelled and some ended up in slavery on the very same plantations as blacks. I never saw a dime. Well, whatever, if I did, I'd probably just spend it all on clothes, pot, and electronic gadgets (none of which I need) anyways.
