A week of mid-winter stormy weather has passed. Sitting in the sun and it's a lovely 17-18 degrees celsius.

19C, warm with a very gusty and cool breeze blowing through the windows... I was woken from my sleep by loud thunder that's currently happening here.

The temperatures reached 29C here the other week and I felt the same... it was very uncomfortable.

I bought an excellent pocket fan/power bank with a rechargeable battery that lasts for 6-11 hours before it needs recharging and a cooling towel that is a special material that you wet, shake and wrap around you, and a Chillow (a cooling pillow that cools you at night.)

The bladeless pocket fan is by Skyocean which I found on Amazon and it has a lot of good reviews from people.

I also love spraying my skin with Eau Thermale Avčne Spring Water and I keep rosewater in my fridge that I lightly spray onto my skin as a cooling toner after showering... it has a lovely cooling effect.

Other tips that I've found helpful to stay cool in the heat:

    - Place a bowl of ice near a fan and it will save you money and energy on air conditioning.

    - Switch off lights, lamps, unplug chargers, laptops, mobiles and gadgets at night... as they generate heat.

    - Have an ice-pack or fill a hot water bottle with water and leave in the freezer before placing it in the sheets before sleeping.

    - Copy the Ancient Egyptians and place a cool damp sheet over the bed at night.

    - Hang a damp sheet by the window.

    - Create a cross-breeze effect with several fans.

    - Wear cotton materials and sleep with Egyptian cotton sheets that lets the skin breathe.

    - Take cool showers and eat cool foods.

    - Stay hydrated with plenty of water.
