Default Why Do People Use False Flags On Their Profiles?

Why do some posters have (for example) a Welsh flag for their location if they don't live in Wales???

Why do some posters have a regional or city flag on their profiles that's in a totally different country to their country flag?!?

Are people ashamed of their nationality and country that they want to hide which country they live in?

Some people also have false flags to literally false-flag (false-flagging things like specific nationalities by acting like idiots to make people hate, say, Serbians or Croatians)

Which is just not cool, man.

Although to answer your question, people today have a lot of cultural sickness. They don't know where they belong because many peoples and communities have lost that same communal feeling they had in the past. This is why they take up a culture that isn't their own, long to be from a specific place, have different flags on their profiles, etc.

That's true and a good point. I've seen some posters pretending to be a nationality they really hate so they can provoke and make flame-wars on-line and to troll people and to make people from those countries they pretend to be from look bad. It's very sneaky and dishonest and a sign that they can't handle a debate being themselves when they resort to pretending to be from another country. It's as bad and desperate as deceptive fraudsters who make sock-accounts.

I don't see how people can be confused by which country they live in though as all they have to do is look on their passport if they really don't know what their nationality is or what country they live in.

It would be like speaking in a foreign accent in real life, pretending you're from a different country.

Oh yeah, it's frequently common on most international forums I go on. Some of the biggest hotspots are the former Yugoslavia countries, Ukraine proxies proclaiming love for Russia, Japanese proxies saying how much they 'hate Japan's own warcrimes and own people', etc.

But regardless the people aren't confused about where they live obviously. It's just society today has failed to instill them with a sense of pride for their own country and people. Because of this and the sickness in our world and media, where people try to push all sorts of bullshit on our youth, people look outside their own country for comfort. Not necessarily saying any people in this thread are included in that, I don't know them obviously and I can't say, some people just like cool flags and shit like that. But it's something I've seen here, other places, and offline as well. I mean having interest in culture and language is always a good thing to have, but that's not what I mean. I have a friend who is so invested in Great Britain (used to pretend to have an accent, tell people he was born there, etc) he does things he thinks british people do, spends all his time talking about it, etc. He has no real pride or love for Canada.

You see this with people who invest themselves in rap or gangster culture. Not just liking rap music, which is whatever, people have their own tastes of course. But they invest in the consumeristic culture surrounding it, use all sorts of slang, pretend to be tough and cool, follow retarded trends, etc. They do this because it gives them something to do really, these people wander from trend to trend in the hazy years of their youth because they haven't been properly anchored to anything. Parents, society, our communities have largely failed to rear these people, and it's a shame.

I noticed that, too and I honestly don't know. Are they ashamed of their own birthplace? It seems that ( in a way) they're saying that their family was wrong for living where they did when they were born and that it isn't a good enough place for them.
