You raise an excellent point. Faith is a kind of catch- all that doesn't really explain anything. It keeps people participating in a shared group dynamic and threats regarding its withdrawal keep people in line. Faith is fed on fear. If one stops a certain course, fear arises and one is more sensitive to some of the more unpleasant facets of life. When they hit, fear is amplified and they return trembling to their original point of view, convinced that they were justly punished for daring to doubt. If a person's faith is empowered to break free of fear, they see that life, indeed, is really good. So what if things happen? They happen to everybody! Why fear education? The information will always be there and it's pointless to try to hide it. Absorb it. Evolve and learn. Why not? Sikeliot raises a pretty good point about brainwashing somebody to believe exactly the same as you do, by the way. People need to explore their own realities and have whatever freedom they can handle to make their own informed decisions. One's feeling of awe and wonder at the universe need not suffer because one is exposed to scientific data. Indeed, that feeling may even be enhanced.
