Default North African DNA cannot just be measured by the "North African" component on Gedmatch!

Or by the "North African" score on 23andme.

If you break down North African, it is a combination of "SW Asian", the Sardinian-like "Mediterranean" component, and a small degree of Sub-Saharan African. North Africans on Dodecad, for instance, do not even score 100% of this component but also score Mediterranean and SW Asian in addition.

So when we try to decide how much North African ancestry a Sicilian or a Portuguese has for instance, we should be considering that some of their score that is called "Mediterranean" could have been brought via North Africa, as they score these components in common, as well as SW Asian, etc.

So it is likely the autosomal impact on SW Europe from North Africa is higher than the 3-7% "North African" these populations can score.

Algerians score only 34.7% NW African, but they score 21.4% Atlantic-Med, 11.6% Caucasus, 16% SW Asian, etc. So we have to consider that the actual sharing of genes is likely higher than what we'd think.

It would only make sense if the Euro peeks of med had much more SSA and NE African. Sardinians and Basques for instance don't score SSA at all, i mean there s even less there than in Norway on K13, and they are small islands and regions where North African DNA would have had a huge impact if it was anything meaningful. Anyone would have at least a couple of SSA %. It's more likely the other way, North Africa had Euro influences from the mediterranean native people who carried their med and even a bit of atlantic, it didn't come back apparently or only from very recent time and documented history in some parts of Spain and southern Italy. I think it's really easy to trace N.African influence, you just have to look for SSA since for example an Algerian is gonna score 10% + 10 NE African, that's a big marker that is like 75% non caucasoid and doesn't vanish into thin air that easily, it would be there.

SSA elements in North Africa have increased with time due to the Arab slave trade.

Yup North Africans are a mixture of pred. Mediterranean like people with significant Arabian and African admixture.
