Default Northeastern US accents (Brooklyn, Rhode Island, Boston, etc.) from East Anglia?

I hear a lot of East Anglian in a Brooklyn accent, and I was curious if there is any link. Additionally all of the northeast US has a similar accent from Maine down to Pennsylvania.

I wouldnt be surprised; from what I've heard Boston English retains a lot of features from the old British Dialects spoken in that area. One of my highschool english teachers told me it was one of the closest american dialects to those in the modern British Isles, but Ill have to do more research into that.

Edit: Also of interest might be the Yat dialect spoken in New Orleans, which is said to bear resemblance to Northeastern English
