Real US Ethnic Map

Found this super-precise map of US ethnic groups and... low and behold... it looks absolutely realistic (corresponds with surnames stats: British surnames being dominant almost everywhere in US)!!!

Nonsense. How can they tell African American and English surnames apart?

Bump. On the ethnicity portion of a census, the African Americans will probably tick African American while the English families will tick White. It's an English American world!

Because at this point people make a realistic decision (everyone knows the race one belongs to).

One observation holds, though! Some common English Surnames are common among Germans or Scandinavians, too, and many people chose to use English spelling (Schmidt > Smith, Müller > Miller, Fischer > Fisher) when moving to US soil. Still, out of first 100 non-hispanic white surnames, ALL are british! So let's consider figure of Germans and Scandinavians should be increased by half (which is completely unrealistic) due to spelling changes and we are still getting 50 million English Americans. Conclusion is that overall, map is correct, the best inquirement into the REAL ancestry of White Americans I have ever seen.

Basically, English Americans are spread across the country. A few places have relatively large concentrations of them. New England and Utah come to mind. The eastern regions of southeastern states do too. McDonald can confirm that.

No... They are by far the main white ethnic group almost everywhere in US except the Mid West, large cities and Hispanic areas. This map is extracted by me from source site and has all British Americans combined:

As you may see, in inland SE states, they are 90% of population. In other parts of SE states, they appear smaller only because of Blacks dominating.

Meh. Surnames aren't always synonymous with ethnicity or nationality. Here's another consideration. Say that my surname is Perkins, my paternal grandma's surname is Murphy, my maternal grandpa's surname is Schmidt, and my maternal grandma's surname is Russo. Am I English? I also don't fully trust a website that spells "Scots" as "Scotts". That's a major gaffe unless the latter is some kind of archaic and/or regional spelling. It's an interesting thread, though.
