I don't think it is over exaggerated as you find articles on this issue with nearly a decade old. This cartel-like mafias seem to be a huge problem in Albania and growing steadily due to bribery and corrupt elites who benefit from it. Albania has a trafficking problem, not a drug consumption one as most people who work in these farms to do not consume neither their core-business is to sell it in Albania.

With all due respect, I know Albania far better than you. As I said in a previous post, 27 years ago our criminals were freed from the prisons, given the status of the "political prisoner" and with a 6 month course became our new judges and prosecutors, that would "punish the crimes of communism". We're having enough of them and a judicial reform is in its way to remove them from our judicial system. The political party that appointed them is resisting to vote the necessary laws, despite the strong international pressure, even from other EU parties of its own spectrum. So she boycotted the parliament. The cultivation of drugs here is promoted and publicized to justify the boycott and the request for a technical government.

Just read the few first paragraphs of this article, and all things come together, the judicial reform, boycott, technical government, drug explosion, and the position of the right wing German political party.

Even in its most darkest days, Albanian mafia has never been as influencing in Albania, as Italian mafia has been in Italiy. The word 'mafia' itself is an Italian word.

The days when criminals, freed from prisons by the west, and supported by them to become judges and politicians, as a compensation for these "political prisoners, that hated the order of communism and would lead us towards the freedom of democracy", are getting over. Albanians more than anyone else are tired of the resulting criminality inflicted on us, and we have shown even in the not so long past that we're capable to build a strong state. Something that can't be said about Italy or the rest of Europe.

What strong state? Do you have any idea of the levels of corruption within Albania???

Perhaps, I didn't thought about it in that perspective. But I also think the real reason why they are postponing Albania to enter the E.U. is more simple and same as Turkey: Muslim majority nations. No one will say it or admit it openly though.

Even here drugs are either planted at the foot of mountains or other nobody's land areas, or cultivated in laboratories. And the quantity of drugs produced is highly exaggerated for political purposes. One of the two major parties, the anticommunists, have made this "drug explosion" their cause to not enter elections in a couple of months that according to all projections they'll loose. Albania won't enter EU for at least the next 20 years, and more likely never. EU uses integration as a carrot, however everything else I said stands.
