"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the States wherein they reside."
Some argue that "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" means, the child is subject to the jurisdiction of their parents' nation, and that being born here is not enough to give them citizenship; knowing that the 14th Amendment was meant to give African American freed slaves citizenship, some suggest it says nothing about immigrants.
