I'm just a Southerner. Sadly, a lot of folks don't identify with just being Southern nowadays. They always have to be fucking Irish or whatever. I'm a blend of various Southern groups, I suppose. Melungeons, Cajuns,and Creoles.

How much African ancestry do you think you have? Do all of your recent relatives look fully European? If you are Melungeon you definitely have African ancestry.

Yes, I do have African ancestry. No one has looked African in my family since maybe the late 1800's. Of course traits are still present, but we don't look full black. 4th great grandpa was a black Southerner from Tennessee and he probably was freed when the Union invaded. He joined up with the 15th Colored Infantry and that was merged with the Louisiana Native Guards. He died in 1934.

And yes, we do all look pretty much full European.

I'd be curious to see your relatives. I want to message you photos of mine and see if they resemble some of yours. Mine are from Cape Verde on that side (a place many Melungeons once claimed to be descended from, and Portugal, but neither is true of course.)

Did you do a genetic test?

You should do a classification thread of yourself or relatives, would be interesting.
