You're the one drawing attention to it, though. If you didn't it's really just him bumping his own thread. From my own experiences on other forums, that's not something that is likely going to make you a mod. Usually the administrators have a stricter process and sense of judgment from who they choose.
In my own experience it's usually the eager ones who dropped out of moderation duties, usually just by not showing up after awhile. They're eager to 'clean up any problems' they see because they think they can fix the place they like so much until they realize it doesn't work that way, and that it isn't fun. Most realize 'hey, this is a job' and eventually stop. It turns you from a passive lurker of threads to someone who has to actively look through everything, and the reports area. You even have to familiarize yourself with many sections and subcultures you aren't used to because you're not familiar with why X or Y or Z is trolling or not. All in all, it's a job and a duty, not a fun time on a friday afternoon.
