This is an attempt at re-carving the Lion Man of Hohlenstein-Stadel, the world's oldest anthropometric carving. It depicts a lion with apparently humanoid posture. Carvings such as this on are often praised as examples of sophistication and higher thinking, but what most people aren't aware of is the sheer scope of effort required to carve such materials as ivory, antler, bone and even wood using nothing but rock.

This video captures the three months of monotony of such work and the discipline required to produce such an artifact. It would have taken eons of misery to scrape it out, and no doubt there were several failed and frustrating attempts before it.
