What are your thoughts on Esperanto? Do you see it ever achieving its goal as an international lingua franca? Will it always be under the foot of the era's dominant ethnic language, delegated to a specific subculture. Are there any Esperantists on this forum, how would you feel about Esperanto and its place in Europe?

I was a user of lernu for years, where I met really nice people. Esperantists are very OK. very popular in Hungary, Lithuania and all Eastern Bloc in general, also in Brazil. anyway, I now find it artificial and a bit of a waste of time

Constructed auxiliary languages are essentially a waste of time since they are doomed to fail and never get genuine acceptance/recognition due to their intrinsic nature. It is also very presumptuous to assume that some Frankensteinian mishmash of randomly picked elements from the three main Indo-European language branches will turn out to be a ductile tool suited to fulfill the communication needs of disparate human communities, let alone a serious alternative to replace the role foreign second languages (e.g., English outside the Anglosphere) play in society. Latin, French, and English have all been the lingua franca of a good chunk of the known world at the time while pidgins and creoles have always been but mere linguistic curiosities. The fact that there is a blatant globalist agenda behind Esperanto does not help its cause either.

Engineered languages like this are doomed to fail and generally are a good example of a god complex materialized into something tangible. The random nature and evolution over the years is precisely what makes languages marvelous. Esperanto in this case is just like an empty shell, only bark and no bite.

I will try to learn esperanto as soon as I have the time for.
I deeply beleive it's a good project and there are many argument in favor of esperanto.

I don't think it can compete with languages tuned by hundreds of years by it's speakers to be efficient.
