Albanians from the city of Bar(Tivar) ask for permission of a statue for Nikolle Zaharia in Budva(Butue)

Representatives of the Albanian minority in Budva(Butue) have requested the Montenegrin government the permission of erection of the statue of Nikolle Zaharia in the peripheric districts of Budva, hence he was the ruler of this region during the Middle Ages, as the city was ruled, after his paralyzing by hand of Lake Dukagjini by his successor, Kojel Zaharia until the city fell under Ottoman occupation.

Currently, there are 3 Albanian statues in Montenegro, one dedicated to Dede Gjon Luli in the central Tuzi park, on the church yard, another dedicated to Pretash Ulaj in his native village of Koja and finally one for the warrior woman Tringe Smajli in her native village of Gurra.

The three coastal cities of Montenegro were ruled by three different Albanian families, Ulqin being under the Balshaj family, Tivar(Bar) under the Borizi family, with the renown leaders Nikolle and Preka Borizi and temporarily the city of Budva was under the Zaharia family that were pushed further from their bases in Dukagjin plateau by the violent and warlike Dukagjini noble family.

Nikolle 'Sakai' Zaharia had fine relations with the Venetian Republic until the skirmish that paralyzed him somewhere at the age of 35.
