Ancient powers of the World- Tree

The older members know that before I embraced Lutheranism and in fact when I posted on this board the first time, I was a registered member of the Asatru Folk Assembly and I took as my Nordic name Thorolf. I did blots and sumbels, was briefly involved with the Wolves of Vinland and I took Thor as my model and protector. I was all about the triads of Odin, Thor and Frey, Freya, Frigga and Skadi. Okay. I abandoned this path because it brought to the surface " warrior" attributes that left me feeling like a control freak and a vicious, militaristic person who cared more about his own honor and dignity than anything or anyone else. I was constantly aggressive, eager to fight and constantly prove myself.

Fast forward to a couple of days ago. I felt the presence of woodland creatures around me ( such as elves) as I was doing my nightly Lutheran prayers. I thought, " okay, this is interesting." I did nothing about it save bid them welcome. Today, the presence of the ancient gods slammed me like Thor's hammer felling the Giant Thrym. I still thought little of it: until the ancient legends I had studied years ago began filling my mind tonight. The world being created out of the body of a slain primordial Giant, Odin hanging himself on Yggdrasil for nine days and nine nights, until the ancient runes revealed themselves to him. The battle of the Aesir and the Vanir and their peace treaty, The World Serpent blowing venom in Thor's face at Ragnarok. Odin sacrificing his right eye at Mimir's Well, Heimdall on the Rainbow Bridge, the Cow Audhumbla making the first god, Bur, by licking a salt lick that he emerged from. Ymir, the Frost Giant being formed from the mists produced by the ice of Niflheim and the flames of Muspellheim.

I don't see this as a problem, but as my mind accessing bits of folklore that had been neglected. I think if I study the Eddas and old legends for a couple of days, these sensations will subside. I think this post may well descend into nothing and it might be an interesting side effect of those years I spent as a Nordic Heathen. Those days are over.

What do you mean when you say you felt the presence of woodland creatures around you/elves?

One thing I always enjoyed about various Heathen religions and Native mythologies (as well as various mythologies around the world, East Asia, Middle Eastern, etc) as well as Shintoism and Buddhism was their relationship with nature. Being someone who camped often (got it from my dad) and fished, learned to survive in the wild I gained a huge respect for nature.

Many times I felt incredibly far removed from nature (physically, and mentally) when I was at University studying various scientific fields (biology, pharmacology, neurology). It's interesting because it gears my mind solely on the immediately explainable. But as soon as I go back camping and out to the woods with my friends I almost feel as if it is supernatural in some ways. I was somewhere up in Muskoka and we were deep in the woods and came to a river to fish with a few friends. It got quite late and we had hiked a fair bit out so we decided to make camp somewhere in the brush and started a fire. That entire night everybody was incredibly uneasy for no real reason. We actually had no idea what land we were on or if anyone even owned it, we actually had a horrible streak of luck fishing that day, I deeply cut my fingers filleting a bass (I've never been that sloppy before) and we came across a gutted rotting rabbit that wasn't eaten, which to be honest I've never seen in all my years in the woods before. No sort of traps around, we couldn't see any sort of tracks or footprints nor blood trail. After awhile despite being tired as hell, we decided to leave after eating the fish and actually packed our tents up only a few hours after setting them. We slowly made our way eastward out to the forest's edge where we parked near a trail and we got startled as all hell because there were three random guys by their car there. They said they came across our truck and saw it was empty and wondered what happened and we said we were just on a trip but we got the spooky-dookies in our pants and decided to leave. We asked them if they owned the land and they said no but they don't hunt or fish in that area because 'it just ain't good hunting' and we thanked them for the concern and left.

Now this might have just been my imagination (there's only one real road oftentimes in these parts) but they followed us a fair way up the road for a few kilometers. Eventually we turned and I didn't see them but it almost feels like they just turned back or something.

But whatever, those weird old dudes aren't what I mean when I wrote this. Turns out, a lot of hunters and people living in that area have been complaining there have been less and less areas to hunt in in the last couple of years and a lot of land is being developed and there is less untouched woodlands around than there used to be. Being someone who likes to live in nature and fish and so on but also someone who deeply respects it, I honestly got the feeling we had encroached in one of the last truly untouched wild areas up there and something wanted us to get out. Of course, my friend just says I'm a dumbass who cut himself, we saw some retarded rabbit, and we were young adults with overactive imaginations who shit their pants when a gust of wind blows up, but who knows? These days we always scout out places before we go and tend to not just do stuff impulsively or off the cuff and usually find out if we're ever on someone elses land (who in 9 out of 10 cases let us fish or use his land because they tend to be kind people who also do that stuff and like people politely asking them).

It's important to respect nature, and I've always had a fascination with religions and mythologies where nature plays a central role. Now, I don't know, having no experience with 'nordic heathenism', if nature is a central point in it, I mostly just wrote this and brought it up because what you said about feeling the presence of woodland creatures reminded me of my own experiences and bouts out in the woods. That night I got a feeling like we were settling somewhere we shouldn't have or disrespected something we shouldn't have. I dunno. Maybe I'm just rambling.

Elves, fairies, Little people.. spirits that were essentially winged humanoids wearing green and brown, except for the airborne spirits, who were a more ethereal gray color. I was saying my devotional prayers and it seemed like they were hanging out all over the place, some perched on my dresser, others on my bed.. it's like they were watching me with amused expressions. It was a random visualization I had while I was reading from my prayer book. It wasn't even odd. I didn't think much about it until later. The presences were quite benign.

I was walking on my yard, went in one place, I've seen a deer which happened to be a very pretty rusalka. In mythology rusalkas were not polimorphs, but in this dream surprisingly was. What was mostly connected to the Slavic beliefs, is that if you have sex with rusalka, you die.
