Johannesburg: City of skyscrapers
Many of the Apartheid-era skyscrapers - mostly built in the 70s, now stand empty and dilapidated.
Construction of the Carlton Centre in 1973 -- at 223m still the tallest building in Africa. The hotel next to it, the Carlton Hotel, has been abandoned.
