I remember asking awhile back what made Macedonia unique as a country.
I don't believe I ever got an answer.

What makes any country unique? If you mean how does Macedonia differ from it's neighbours, well here goes;

With Albania: We are majority Christian Slavic people, who speak a different language to Albanians, who are mostly muslim.
With Serbia: We speak a different language to Serbs, albeit a related one.
With Greece: We speak a different language to Greeks
With Bulgaria: We speak a different language to Bulgarian, albeit a related one. We use the old calender for religious holidays.

I believe you will discover similar difference amongst Balkan countries.

Umm, do you know what the Gruevski supporters did when they discovered that Macedonia had become a police state under him? His government had wiretapped over 20,000 people, in effect, the largest police state since the Stasi. His supporters denounced the revelations as a foreign conspiracy and continue to back him with fervor because he promises them the robbery of Hellenic history (ancient Macedonians), the denial of the Bulgarian history (Samuil, IMRO), and so on. To me, the Macedonian people and the government are two sides of the same thieving coin. One steals money; another steals history.
