What's the darkest and the whitest ethnicity you've been mistaken for?

I very often see people on the streets in Russia that are screaming "China! Japan! Oh, then what else could it be?" And it seems like they were deeply surprised at that moment.
I also confused with koreans or kalmyks by local people.

There are chechens here, and it was in fact a chechen that started speaking russian to me, theres a shop in town called "Grozny"

They probably thought you were Russian, otherwise they had talked to you in Chechen.

People in the west know what Chechens, Georgians, and Armenians are. The rest of the caucasian groups are less known though. People usually don't associate Georgians and Chechens with Armenians here though.

No. Manchurians are only about 10 million in China. Northern Chinese in general are taller with finer noses.

I'm both Northern and Southern Chinese, but look stereotypically Nordsinid/Tungid mix.

Manchus are very similar to Northern Han Chinese and all other ethnicities within that region. Of course, the modern Han identity is not really based on 'race' and it is very possible that some Han in the NE are really Manchus, Hezhens, Xibos, etc. In fact, many Manchus hid their identities in the wake of the Xinhai Revolution and many are now reclaiming their lost heritage. Thankfully, those days are past behind most of us and we now get along.

In response to the topic, I have no idea what the darkest and lightest ethnicity I've been mistaken for since the ethnicities I've been mistaken for are roughly around as fair/dark as Chinese (Japanese and Koreans). I suppose Eurasian is the 'whitest' ethnicity I've been mistaken for although I don't think I look very European at all
