Why an Italian should feel kinship with Ariana Grande? Because some of her grandparents were born in Italy? Frankly it's too little.

Madonna and Lady Gaga are popular in Italy not because they are of Italian descent but because they are part of the Music world's star system.

Not to Ariana Grande, but for instance SardiniaAtlantis here. Italian-Americans who still speak Italian and still feel connected to the Old Country.

SardiniaAtlantis speaks Italian, and he is pro-Italy more than the other two users from Sardinia.

I'm aware. According to survey conducted in Sardinia, the majority is very autonomist over there far more than a Tuscan feeling first Tuscan, then Italian. Mens-Sarda still speaks Sardinian too, which is awesome in its own right to me. Many Sardinians can't, they just understand it. At least, that's what I learned from a Sardinian person.

While lurking, I've also noticed him speaking Sardinian and (other) Italians responding in Italian, this while Sardinian is quite distinct from the latter. But Romance language don't fall far from the Latin tree they came from. So it makes sense it's possible, especially in written language.

Her grandparents are American-Born. Only her great-grandparents were born in Italy according to this information:

On her father’s side, Ariana is the granddaughter of Anthony Vincent Charles Butera (the son of Charles A. Butera and Marie) and Florence P. Citrano. Ariana’s great-grandfather Charles was born in New Jersey, to Italian parents, Antonino Butera and Magherita Azzara, from Menfi, Provincia di Agrigento, Sicily. Marie was Italian. Florence was likely the daughter of Italian immigrants. The surnames “Butera” and “Citrano” are Sicilian.

On her mother’s side, Ariana is the granddaughter of Frank Anthony Grande (the son of Antonio “Anthony” Grande and Felmino “Philomena”) and Marjorie. Frank was born in New York, to Italian parents. Antonio was born, c. 1900, the son of Raffaela (b. 1876) and Sabato Grande (b. July 1877, in Lanciano, Province of Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy), and moved to the U.S. in May 1903.

In Italy we are all, at some extent, autonomist and autarkic. In words.

Keep in mind that Sicilians are the "white" people who have sickle cell anemia problems. This stems from the fact that Sicilians average around 1.5% sub-Saharan African DNA. Although to be fair to Sicilians Andalausians have even more sub-Saharan DNA than they do. Then there are the Portugese, who have the most negro DNA of any Europeans.
