Transport of convicts from Britain to Australia commenced soon after, and these included many Irishmen. Australians, Kiwis and Brits. The only people who like the taste of Vegemite and Marmite. Very nutritious of course, but hard to understand for non-Brits and non-Aussies/non-Kiwis. It's an acquired taste for them since early childhood.

Never heard that explanation for POM. They don't call Irishmen POMS here it is mostly reserved for the English but it is possible it was copied from the French.
