Only interesting part of this thread is the names of countries that are not phonetical adoptation of international name in your language, which are usually the countries that border yours or whith which you have strong and old cultural ties.

Like Alemania for Germany in French or Krievia for Russia in Estonian or Nemec for a German in Russian (which btw literally means mute people).

So maybe we should just shorten the list to the interesting part and not go trough all thoose boring adoptations?

Well in that case most of the unique Somali names of nation/states I can think of the top of my head are obsolete and replaced with conventinal transiliteration of official names

Straits of Hormuz: Biyo-Mareen (The by pass)
Persia: Furus
Socotra: Suuqada Ra (Marketplace of Ra)
Djibouti: Tjehuudi (Thoth's land)
Bab-El Mandeb: Iridii Ilmada-keen (Gate of Tears)
Gulf of Aden: Gacanka Cadmeed (The White Hand)
North Sudan: Sannaar iyo Sawaakin (The Sennar and Suakin)

Keep in mind these Place names were written using Arabic alphabets with each tariqa (sufi commune) coming with its unique rules and special dots/letters. The Latin transliteration is much more awkward.
