When should a person that is terminally ill let their close ones know that they are dying?

if you were just diagnosed with a terminal condition and you were given 4-8 months to live, when would you tell your close friends, loved ones, etc.? More specifically the more sensitive ones? is it best to tell sensitive people right away or later on as you get more sick? Some people say tell immediately, others say don't tell until later on.

The sooner - I think.
Yes, it will make them sad, but they would have time to spent together, say what they want to say, cherish your memories and say goodbye on time.

What if you're afraid that the person might tell everyone you know, cause they're that person, but they're still close to you and you want them to know? Some people are just bad at keeping secrets.

So? The ''secret'' will be not kept for long anyway, since the person will die soon.
Do you risk of spending more time, and more valuable time with your loved over the fear of who will learn about it ?
It isn't worth it.

Personally if i were ill i would not like to know it..I cant imagine anything worse than a doctor telling you that you have a few months to live.

Then your friends might be pissed at you. But at the same time, there's the fear of them leaving you behind because they know you're gonna die. And a lot of the time you can't hide your illness, it will eventually physically show. Especially for someone who has as little as 4 months left.
