My European ethnicity thinks & cares about being European as much as it cares about its ethnic identity
My European ethnicity thinks & cares about being European, but it cares about its ethnic identity and similar ethnic groups first
My European ethnicity thinks & cares about being European, but it strictly cares about its ethnic identity first
My European ethnicity doesn't really think or care about being European and cares about ethnic identity mostly, but still feels some connections to ALL other Europeans than to ANY non-Europeans
My European ethnicity doesn't think or care about being European at all and cares about its ethnic identity and similar ethnic identities first; my European ethnicity feels closer to SOME non-European ethnicities than to SOME other European ethnicities
My European ethnicity doesn't think or care about being European at all and strictly only cares about its ethnicity
My European ethnicity doesn't really think about being European or its ethnic identity

Americans seem to have a hard time trying to understand that outside the main European cities (London, Paris, Berlin and the rest of Europe's capital cities to a lesser extent), Europe is still way more homogeneous than the US as a whole is, especially if one looks at the 'ethnic' breakdown instead of the racial one. In a given mid-sized American town you can have families originating from all over the world living on the same street, while this is unheard of in most of Europe.
A Russian who has never ventured outside Eastern Europe has probably never interacted with a Spaniard in real life; similarly, a Bulgarian person living in some 50k inh. town has most likely never come across a Dane - just random examples not to be taken literally. Since Sicily has been brought up: a quick search brings back a Wikipedia article that states that the island is 96.5% Sicilian (and other Italian) and 3.5% immigrants: quite telling figures.
