Forgot that Spain and s. Europe is full of browns-skinned triracials and of course you can't talk about whiteness when you are dealing with brown people only.

hahahaha, in Spain ALL natives consider ourselves white, racism has never existed and nobody cares if you have a more or less light skin, in fact people want to be tanned after the summer and an overly white skin is a problem. Only gypsies or with gypsy mixture are considered not white.

Proclamations against racism have always been dedicated to the gypsy community which it is a quite defined collective (although there are towns and slums in Andalusia where there mix).

Ethnicity is more important in European countries, but... Someone who is say 25% Nigerian or Arab or whatever and 75% Swedish won't be seen as more Swedish than someone who is 50% Swedish and 50% Swiss. Race in Europe is still important or it should be, especially nowadays with non-Europeans swarming Europe.

this concept obviously existed even before emerge of nations/nationalism. i dont think its a concept confined to the americas either, it existed way before european discovery of americas. but it should be different meaning. seriously why i never thought about this in past..i knew obviously how my people looked like and even if i ever boasted on some feature or appearance or beauty of my people i never did this like comparing with others and feeling better. or i compared unconsciously. another thing i noticed that, in russian when we saw tourists from lets say coming from spain, i did refer them «the» europeans, «today i met tourists came from europe» -- not meaning that we are not racially european what ever that is or not like they are fair than us. just meaning from other part of the continent, despite our huge country is also parts of that continent and many others we actually share. and then stepping out side russia, living abroad i was thought to feel more european than ever i guess. and i started reading apricity and unfortunately got racially more aware. i dont know which one was better. i think i miss the old days, boo-hoo

In countries where many races coexist, being white is somewhat important (even unconsciously) because being white has benefits: white people ussually get better jobs (hence better payement), are more attractive to the opposite gender, etc.

Take for example USA, but it also happens in Latin America where white people are associated with upper class and mixed or plain black/indigenous people with lower class, low education, crime. There is a clear difference that cannot be denied, it doesn't mean that difference is right or should exist.

The concept of "whiteness" is a newworlders' one, i.e., it's a colonial term.

It's not weird, then, that those who are obssesed with such a concept of "whiteness" are mostly new worlders or colonials (americans from north to south, nz, australians, &c &c)

In my geographical area, I don't know the rest of Europe, don't use "white" amongst us, in our societies, but lighter or darker...

Everybody knows that Southern Europa is darker than Northern Europa but being white or being the whitest is not important at all. European history and European culture is more diverse than white/non-white so if you are from an European nation you are European as well.

these are the only Southern Europeans I want in the U.S...SICILIANs and south Italians, and mainly the Mafia/mobster types. for several reasons.

1. they are most likely not devout Catholics, and I want LESS Catholicism in the U.S.
