    I see everything

And, no, I won't have a heart attack.

People have said things like that Chileans are and I always say that it is possible. I never say that it is true of false, just that it is impossible to measure so it seems silly to me to present that opinion as a fact.

The only thing I can say with certainty is that Puerto Ricans are more European than Chileans.

Do they possibly look subjectively less European? Sure, but also maybe not.

Compare the ancestry distributions for San Juan and Santiago. Again, I'm not claiming that Puerto Ricans do look whiter - just that it isn't really a foregone conclusion (IMO at least) that Chileans look whiter.

Someone at the 25th percentile of European ancestry:
In Santiago: 48% European (48% Native and 4% African)
In San Juan: 63% European (13% Native and 24% African)

I'm not sure that the Chilean would look whiter in this case.

Someone at the median for European ancestry:

In Santiago: 55% European (41% Native and 4% African)
In San Juan: 68% European (13% Native and 19% African)

Again, I'm not sure that the Chilean would look whiter in this case.

Someone at the 75th percentile for European ancestry:

In Santiago: 63% European (33% Native and 4% African)
In San Juan: 75% European (13% Native and 12% African)

Again, I'm not sure that the Chilean would look whiter in this case.

Across the distribution, it seems possible that the Chileans are "whiter" but also possible that they are not.

I was obviously joking mate don't take it seriously!!

Has Dominicanese been to San Juan? If that's the case then it's his perception – not based on genetic studies.

    yeah iv been there

far too many times, PR is like my second home cause i have family there in PR (their Dominican but they have been in PR for about 40 years) from my dad side, my dad side many still live in DR, but their diaspora is in PR, spain, and the US. Since little iv been flying to PR from DR to see them via American Eagle & American Airlines when AE was hub in San Juan.

i go to PR at least twice a year

idk to be honest anymore how to compare PR with Chile

all i know is that i estimate chile to be 65% Mestizo/Castizo, 30% White, 5% Amerindian

and PR i estimated it to be 70% white, 22% mulatto, 8% white

but since SSA admixeture is more visible than Amerindian mixed, then that is why i said PR's looked less Euro than Chileans

however, what i can definitely say, is that when im in a KFC or pop'is in san juan with a full line waiting to make the order, theyr all white and can easily pass in the Canary Islands, around 85% to even 95% of the ppl would normally be whiter than me

One thing that I wonder, though, is to what extent differences in homicide rate are actually noticeable.

Here are the latest homicide rate figures from the UN for Ibero-America:

Under "Crimes" at this link: https://data.unodc.org/

Puerto Rico has a murder rate three times as high as Peru.

Every year, the average Puerto Rican has a 0.0185% chance of being murdered. The average Peruvian has a .0067% of being murdered.

Obviously violent crime is horrible and the last thing anyone wants is for harm to come to them or their family, but to what extent is that difference between the rates actually meaningful to the average person? Not a rhetorical question, I'm actually serious

And of course the average person has a far lower chance of actually being murdered than even those numbers would suggest, because in Puerto Rico (and perhaps Peru as well) well over half of murders are gang related.

For me personally, safety is definitely very important but I think I'd gladly take the average Puerto Rican standard of living over the average Peruvian one even when you take the issue of safety into account. Or even the average Puerto Rican standard of living over the average Uruguayan one.

PR will rise again, dont worry

firstly American eagle never should have left san juan, they were bringing in so much money from that

i think if PR would liberate themselves from the US, itll be much better, i really dont know what happened to PR

when i was little, it was thriving (1990s) and my dad told me stories of PR in the 80s when he was young, cause he used to live there for 14 years before returning to the DR, but he would go back and fourth every month. He told me that in the 70s him and his sisters (my aunts) and his parents (my grandparents) would go to vieque & culebra all the time, and things were so much cheaper and the streets were always crowded in a good way, very little if not any crimes. My dad lived in Minilla, Bayamon

Only because they are French speakers/citizens so i guess it's easier to integrate there (i've heard this place is a little dangerous though).
