The most important distinction is between people who have visited Latin America and those who have not. Those who have not can have their opinions formed by prejudices, ignorance and the effects of the international media. For example, Russia is routinely described worse than it is. More harmless countries are not. I would consider as interesting only the results in a poll of people who actually came to Latin America and who are not from Latin America (i.e they are third party). The votes of people who have not visited or lived here are entirely meaningless to me.

The Zika problem is recent, it has one or two years only, it is believed it arrived here during our World Cup. It is under control. The only change I did is to avoid the most problematic areas, there are many others where it is not a problem here. You have to remember Brazil is bigger than the whole of Europe, so conditions can change from one place to the other. As for spiders, yes there are some. But I have never heard of anyone seriously hurt by them, and I am in my 30's already. My family on both areas grew up and most still live in rural areas, they have never had any problems with spiders or snakes.

If you're happy to live in Latin America, than that's your personal preference and choice, but for me as a European being asked on a European cultural forum what countries I'd want to move to live in over in South America, my answer to that is I prefer living in Europe.

I just lurk here because it has people from all over the world. As you can see, my country is often mentioned, with a negative tinge (& often wrong information too, such as the existence of tornadoes, f.e). I am also interested about history, genetics, etc, and this and other forums sometimes can teach us about many different subjects. Including biases!

Because there are a lot of Latin Americans (some are mixed, others are white) here and there is a Latin American section. I don't know if you noticed, but here on TA there are a lot of people who aren't European (some have European ancestry, others don't).
