Or more closely to you, is France in Southern Europe?
I live in Occitania, so it's definitely Southern Europe...

Anyway, I see your point. But if you take into account the thread "Most important region in Europe", the map of Europe was divided into 4 regions: northern, eastern, southern, western. Almost all the nations mentioned in my poll (except for GDR and Czech Republic, for some reason) were located in the green part of the map (eastern corner). That's why I didn't think it would offend anyone.

    Well, now it's bedtime.

By an American, whose knowledge about European geography is close to zero. His map was critisized, as far as I remember.
You may want to click on the link in my signature "How Europe is divided" to see some more adequate and recent map. Basically, only some Albanians and trolls are unhappy with it.

But it doesn't offend me, I'm just saying it's an error. I live in the part of Poland which is indeed Eastern Europe. It would be quite silly to be offended - not to mention the fact that there is no reason to be, from practical point of view.

Not so well really. I think the people now in government are chetniks. They want to rehabilitate chetniks, they rehabilitatet draza mihajlovic already and now they want the same for Milan Nedic (which is a tougher case then draza even I think). Thats my impression. My grandfather like the communists though, I dont know if his opinion counts because he was a Gypsy but he used to say "I worked in eastern and western germany and eastern germany is better because it has the better system". He also liked Tito.

I doubt any. Some are nostalgic for elements of the communist era, but the overwhelming majority of the people are realist and know how flawed communism was.

Hm, I thought the Serbs would have more positive views on communism, but that's even better.

Actually, Russia has plenty of reasons to be in favour of communism. Basically because of work, plenty of places have been abandoned by its inhabitants during the collapse of the Soviet Union. And the whole idea of "bigger Russia", you know... Kremlin had more control.

no most serbs are nationalists, a light version of nationalist party is in government. they used to be in SRS (Serb radical party, pretty ultra-nationalist) but split to become a lighter more european accepted version of nationalists. they get the most votes and even before they split the SRS got the most votes. The Socialists (children of communists) have very few votes.

I was thinking about Serbs having good thoughts about communism (regarding the topic, not necessarily being communists themselves) because of Yugoslavia. It was much more powerful than ex-Yugoslav republic alone, so I presumed the Serbs would have similar thoughts on that part of history, as Russians have about the Soviet Union.

But truth is, during the collapse of Yugoslavia worse things happened between the nations than during relatively peaceful collapse of the Soviet Union. So the hostility toward the nations may be stronger out there.

I think serb nationalists blame yugoslavia(tito) for loss of serb identity in favour of being a "yugoslav" and it was atheist not orthodox etc. and generally nationalists dont like communists etc. they dont see yugoslavia as powerful serbia because they dont see yugoslavia as serbia, but as foreign which is against serbs etc. but I talked mostly to serb nationalists, and I didnt interviewed a represantive sample of serb citizens, I really dont know.
