Six in 10 oppose use of Macedonia in FYROM name

Six in 10 Greeks oppose the use of the word Macedonia in a composite name for the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), according to a new opinion poll while seven in 10 believe the delay in resolving the dispute between Greece and FYROM regarding the latter’s official name is harmful to Greece.

The poll, which was carried out by the University of Macedonia and the Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) with the support of Columbia University’s Human Rights Institute, found that only 28 percent of respondents would support a solution involving a composite name containing the word Macedonia, with just 10 percent accepting the name used by FYROM, Republic of Macedonia.

Nearly eight in 10 respondents (77 percent) said they believed it was important for the longstanding name dispute to be resolved as soon as possible, while just over seven in 10 (71.5 percent) reckoned that the delay is damaging to Greece.

The same survey found that seven in 10 respondents thought Greece’s position on the international stage was worse this year than it was a year ago, with 52 percent reckoning that it will be even worse in a year’s time. Seven in 10 (69.5 percent) said they believed Greece faced an external threat. Of those, 76.5 percent cited Turkey as the key threat, with 11 percent mentioning Germany and 2.5 percent FYROM.

I accept slavomacedonia , its the only perfect one because their people are a mix of greek macedonians and slavs

Better solution will be to split their country in 3 pieces and the greek macedonians in the south united with Greece,
slavs united with Bulgaria-Serbia and Albanians unite with Albania or Kosovo

But they can stay as they are but stop the historic lies like their language is macedonian etc.

Not really, the Bulgarians are quite distant from Greeks who cluster rather closely with Albanians. I think it can be believed that the Greeks and Albanians mostly have paleo-Balkan origins, but the Bulgarians are genetically closest to Macedonians and Romanians. We also have paleo-Balkan origins, but one predominantly Eastern European and Daco-Thracian.

Wow I read that title and thought that a lot of people don't want us to use the word Macedonia in our name. Then I read it a bit closer and realized it was 6 in 10 Greeks.

Really? So 40% of Greek people are ok with us using the word Macedonia in our name?

I bet when we declared independence it was 10 in 10 Greeks that opposed it.

6 in 10 are even against FYROM because it use Macedonia in it , i am with the other 4 in 10 and i have no problem with FYROM
but 100% are against republic of macedonia

Yes you can use every name you want but you cant steal history.

You can use for name even Republic of Sparta and start claiming that you are ancient spartans and build statues of Leonidas everywhere

This FYROM being true macedonians was nothing more than a soviet/russian propaganda the inhabitants of that area took as truth and started yelling left and right about it.It is sad that they keep to it up to this day....
