They are more ancient than Celtic people. It is not one hundred per cent sure what they were though, but most likely they were of possibly Celtic ethnicity.

Many French people share different views on this subject anyway. Most likely they will say they are just French, neither Latin or Saxon and then they will give you their delusional French speech on how France is something completely different and the best nation ever.

It is the same with some of my Romanian friends, some say that Romania is a "Latin island" in the middle of a "Slav Ocean", others say they are culturally more similar to their neighbors.
