Why did all the girls in my school tan obsessively the week before prom? Why did they all want to have dark skin? Why did they have their hair curled?

Tanning culture is a thing in Europe too. And girls get there hairs curled here too, what makes you assume they don't? My mom has perfectly straight hair and she has been getting it curled all her life. When we had high school leaving ceremony all the straight haired girls in my class got it curled/waved. It has nothing to do with africans.
