I have read about Lactarius deliciosus, that one is very popular in Ukraine even more than any kind of Boletus. Is ti true?

Certain amanita muscaria were/are consumed by Siberian shamans for their psychedelic properties. And people drank shaman piss to get high since it was still active, but the toxic compounds (not lethal) were filtered.

Mushroom picking was my childhood but I didn't like getting covered in ticks.
Also one time I had s negative experience, are some mushrooms that later were identified by a "reputable mushroom guru" as extremely poisonous. Turned out he was wrong and they were fine , but for a few hours I was thinking I am going to die... After that there was no mushroom picking for a while

Mikula, I don't know, sadly. I'm very mushroom-ignorant, but I've recently become interested in learning more about them. Maybe I can learn something from your great topic here. A friend who lives in Western Ukraine sent me this photo of mushrooms he picked in the Carpathians. What type of mushrooms are in the photo? Anyone know?

Mushroompicking is not really common in western europe from my experience, besides Scandinavia.

I, however as most of other posters still enjoy it with my grandfather.

I got a disgust for them since i asked my grandfather about them and he described it as a tree cancer.

    Lucky mushroompicker!
Mushrooms at the picture had to be Boletus,
most probably Boletus edulis or Boletus reticulatus.
One mushroom (wit the yellow bottom of its hat) could be Imleria badia, perhaps.

Ones are the most popular also among the Czechs.
We nickname ones pravé hřiby (praváky) - i.e. right mushrooms, genuine mushrooms.
