Military operations against Assad regime is getting real more and more. And when Trump in january will get intelligence data about real state of affairs in Syria and his last illusions about it dissipate, the bloody attraction for Assad will begin

Good as it might sound, I think the notion that Trump will reverse key elements of established Anglo-American imperial policy in the Middle East is mostly wishful thinking.

Trump made many remarks that while (possibly) innocent and honest, were off-the-cuff and not the product of detailed analysis.

Syria has been destroyed, and Assad is going down, one way or another. That decision was made years ago, probably as part of a strategy much bigger than Syria. That's the trajectory we're on now, in the death throes of the Obama Administration, and I expect it to remain the case under Trump.

We also have to remember the kind of people Trump is likely to be working with. Alarm bells should already be ringing for pacifists, isolationists and anti-imperialists.

The United States is the most powerful imperial machine in world history. With its Western and other allies added to the mix, it's way beyond anything else out there. The mission is dominating the whole God-damned world. That position is not something a new President is going to come in and relinquish, which a real withdrawal from zones of strategic importance would amount to. Talk is cheap, and often ill-informed.
