The first written mention was a Chinese source (Zhang Qian chinese diplomat) about the Hungarians in the Siberian homeland: Ui-Beigo (Ugor kingdom) from the 2nd century BC. The Ob-Ugric tribes are our closest relatives, their language is the closest language to the Hungarian and their ancestors lived from north of our Western Siberian homeland.

On paper they seem to have basic rights, but in reality unfortunately laws don't always materialize. This isn't only characteristic to Serbia, but also to other neighboring countries where large Hungarian communities live. At least Hungarians in Northern Vojvodina should have the right to decide if they would like to remain part of Serbia or would they like to join Hungary, because after WWI and ever since then they weren't given this option to choose.

There is no exact data how many Hungarians settled in the Carpathian Basin, but most estimates vary between 200-500 thousand, of whom the military basis consisted between 40-70 thousand.
