I believe that legends and myth are largely made of
“truth”, and indeed present aspects of it that can only be received in this mode; and long ago certain truths and modes of this kind were discovered and must always reappear.

Indeed it might be a basic characteristic of existence that those who would know it completely would perish, in which case the strength of a spirit should be measured according to how much of the “truth” one could still barely endure-or to put it more clearly, to what degree one would require it to be thinned down, shrouded, sweetened, blunted, falsified.

I saw a two-minute film on Channel 4 last night where a 'black Briton' was given a platform to berate his 'countrymen' for thinking Jerusalem was a suitable English national anthem.
I plan to go the Kingston Jamaica and say something similar - that Bob Marley is racist for singing songs that exclude the white man - wonder how long I'll last.

Should Jerusalem be adopted as the English national anthem? Broadcaster Henry Bonsu would not feel comfortable with Jerusalem as the national anthem: for him, the 'green and pleasant land' of the hymn reminds him of the hostility he has faced when visiting the English countryside.

No one wants to hear brummies sing, it'll be like an elephant trampling a cow.
Anyway, with what someone said about Englishmen singing the anthem, it reminds me of this I saw:
Aussies: Are extremely patriotic about their beer.
Americans: Are flag-waving, anthem-singing, and obsessively patriotic to the point of blindness.
Canadians: Can't agree on the words to their anthem, in either language, when they can be bothered to sing them.
Brits: Do not sing at all but prefer a large brass band to perform the anthem.
