Homophobia, Why Eastern Europe is so homophobic?

I have watched a tv program about homophobia in Russia. In Russia you can go to jail if you say in public that you are gay...or you can be beaten or even killed for some homophobic group without any legal problem for them.
I can't understand this kind of hate, it has no sense.

I have always thoght that this kind of homophobic people are in fact gays...and they can't accept themselves and project their frustation against "free gays".

What do you think? Why Eastern Europe is so homophobic?

There are a lot of homophobia everywhere, in TA too. I have been called faggot for Cristiano Viejo more than 100 times and no moderator has banned him. The double standard...
