Should Russia join NATO?

I know this may sound like a complete undermining of the very idea of NATO in the first place,
but to some this might mark the beginning of a new era in US foreign policy history.

Should NATO reconfigure its alliances? What do you think?

Should Donald Trump offer that Russia become a (i) NATO ally? (ii) NATO ally only in the fight against ISIS? or (iii) NATO ally in the fight against Islamic jihad worldwide?

The idea of Russia becoming a NATO member has at different times been floated by both Western and Russian leaders, as well as some experts.

The first formal contacts and cooperation between Russia and NATO started in 1991, and were further deepened as Russia joined the Partnership for Peace program.
The last time someone mentioned the possibility of Russia joining the NATO was in 2009, when the Polish Foreign Minister suggested to discuss if including Russia in NATO will be a possible scenario.

Russia made it clear they did not plan to join the alliance, preferring to keep cooperation on a lower level. In 2010 German defense experts and the former defense minister wrote in an open letter that Russia should join the NATO to counterbalance emerging Asian powers.

But on 1 April 2014, NATO unilaterally decided to suspend practical co-operation with the Russian Federation, in response to the Ukraine crisis.

Interesting idea, but I think it's still a naive dream. Russia and the US won't become allies anytime soon. For us as the EU I do think it's within our interest to maintain good relationships with Russia, though. Us having had to boycot Russia as of recently did hurt our economy as it did Russia's and all of this because of the NATO which basically is the US.

However, I still don't see Russia as a friend nor trustworthy. They are a trade partner.

Russia joining NATO is not going to create a one world government. The Islamic world would never join this new NATO.
I think we need to reconfigure our NATO alliances. The Soviet Union is no more. Why are people still so hostile against Russia?

The Russians helped Trump get elected and I think the US would have friendlier relations with Russia than the Obama's administration had.
Why was Russia boycotted? Because of its military adventures in Ukraine? He will probably treat Russia as an ally in the fight against the Islamic State.
