I think the country should be divided into two zones. The North and the South. The differences between both zones are too great for the country to be united.

Don't make the work of Maniot.![]()

North is Gaulish and more Germanic. South is Gaulish, Ibero-Basque-Aquitanian and less Germanic. Anycase your pics selections seems to be difficult to worsen, at least if you was trying to be neutral.

Of course there are Roman ancestry all along France. But I bet Northern France is more racially Germanic(Francs, Normads and others) than Roman. In fact, I sometimes wonder if Northern France is even more Nordic than many Southern areas of nowadays Germanic countries. I would await Svanhild response about it.![]()

are there any ethnic french left?

In my humble opinion, rather than a clear North/South division, it would be a combination of Mediterranean and Alpine elements, with Mediterranean being more evident in the South and West -in combination with Atlantic features- and Alpine being more evident in the East and North -in combination with Nordish. I'd personally say that the Nordoid input is more evident in the coastal territory west of the Joret line, the one that used to separate linguistically Upper Norman and Picard from French, as well as in Alsatian lands.
