Russian film sparks uproar by glorifying Soviet WWII ‘myth’

Depiction of 1941 event, where 28 Soviet soldiers were said to face certain death defending frontline, sparks angry debate

In a controversial new Russian film, 28 Soviet soldiers facing sure death single-handedly defend the frontline outside Moscow against an onslaught of Nazi tanks in 1941.

“Everything’s clear here — the enemy is over there, and Moscow is back there,” says one soldier in the film “The Panfilov 28.”

But the events are far from clear cut and the film about a legendary unit of soldiers written into the pantheon of national heroism has sparked an angry debate.

I watched this movie last week, I liked it more than all the new Russian war movies. I'm glad I was able to help the creators of this movie financially, when very few people have heard about it, namely, in the middle of 2014 year.
