All European countries have the right to exists, even the tiniest ones, as Andorra, Monaco or San Marino. Why not? If they want to be an independent state, the rest of us should respect their will.

Simple reasons, it's a tax heaven and duty free zone which was main income to it's population. At least such was the situation before the EU common market.Originally Posted by Guarani

They have really long history and strong sense of identity.
Even the native Hapsburgs ended up kicked out from Switzerland
