At the end of World War I, John Browning designed the M2 Browning 50 caliber machine gun. It was nicknamed ‘Ma Deuce’ by the US troops. The Browning design has several specific characteristics; the official name of the M2 Browning model heavy machine gun is ‘Lime’.

The 50 caliber M2 is a flexible, effective weapon against ground troops, transport vehicles, fortifications, ships without armor or slightly armored, and low flying light aircraft.

The 50 caliber Browning machine gun has been used universally by the United States Armed Forces as very successful weaponry for vehicles, aircraft, and watercraft since the 1930s to today. It was extensively used during World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, the Battle of the Falkland Islands, and during the Allied operations in Iraq in 1990 and 2003.

It is the primary heavy machine gun of all the nations of NATO, and the Browning machine gun is also being utilized by several other countries.
