I guess you could say it has a rich government, but the people are very poor. GDP per capita >>>>> GDP (nominal or PPP).

When we look at how developed/advanced/forward a country is, we look at their GDP per capita or HDI, not GDP nominal or PPP. India is only ranked so high solely because of their population.

So does that mean America is not the world richest? everyone calls them the world richest nation but if we look America's GDP per capita they are't even in top 5 either.

    According to advance economies map.

    Only

West Europe ( Germany, France, England, Netherland, Italy, Austria ect )

East Asia ( Japan, South Korea Taiwan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau )

And America, Singapore, Israel, Qatar Canada, Australia, New Zealand ect Although some countries with very high GDP per capita in Southeast Asia like Brunei, Malaysia is not listed here either.

India's population is 1.3 billion, of course its GDP is going to be huge. GDP is important in measuring the overall size of an economy and the importance of its market, but GDP per capita is the most critical part of whether a country is developed or not.

China's PPP GDP is the world's largest but it's GDP per capita is still very low compared to many first world nations, and India is even much lower. China has been much more successful is eradicating desperate poverty and developing infrastructure however, but still has a long way to go to match the HDI levels of the US and Western Europe. India is not even close to the HDI of many Southeast Asian nations, I don't think it can get anywhere near First world nations on per capita HDI levels any time in our lifetime tbh.
