I have the clear notion that New World gypsies are far better suceeded than most Gypsy communities in Europe. For example in Brazil most gypsies are well off.

I understand that in Europe, they have a negative connotation because of how a lot of them once behaved, but good for your country for being the least racist to them! . I think Romania is a nice country. You guys care about your culture, but you're not nonsensical and racist to people at the same time. Actually you don't have a clue, i happen to have met alot of gypsies during my life and i do have a few gypsy friends (who are atypical and think out of the box) so i can tell you with no doubt that in general they are extremely racist and do not make an effort to integrate (i'm talking about a significant majority of them, not all). Anti-social and criminal behaviour is their normal mindset, they don't allow marriages outside of their race, they often treat their women like shit and have gang mentality and almost always try to take advantage of non-gypsies with endless schemes.

i'm not sure if the word gypsy has the same meaning in the New World as in Europe. the word "gypsy" is often used for all nomadic populations regardless their origins.

Hummm, I have talked about this many times with some Romanian users. Here during many time when a Gypsy from Romania commited a crime, the Spanish media called him/her "Romanian". Still this happens. But less. A Spanish police report claimed a few months ago that the vast majority of the "Romanian" crimes in Spain were commited by Gypsies, not by ethnic Romanians, and asked to no identify such activities with true Romanians.

If they where a gypsy from Romania, then they probably are a citizen of Romania. So, the media would not be wrong in saying they where Romanian, if that's where they where born and raised. May not be ethnic Romanians at all but still a citizen of Romania.

Gypsies are a seperate community, they evolved seperately, they dont have much in common with modern day indians. They are seperated by 2000 years of history. Just like Turks are not from Central Asia anymore (the difference turks established a state gypsies didnt and are minority but its still somewhat similar). If anything Gypsies should establish their own state, it would be difficult enough to unite all the different Gypsy Groups in one state and nation, let alone they being indian. They are foreigners in india, and thats how indians see it too.
