From legend to pop image, the vampire has always been us, well spring of fear and revulsion for some, alluring temptation to break down the barriers of life and sexual taboos. This blog post sums 25 of them, although a few aren't really that impressive and rather a quircky pick from the writer.

Great vampires are worthy adversaries, whether they become defeated or one falls victim to them, they own a quality of dignity and genius that engenders respect, in the same way that a magnificent predator is admired for its skills and dilligence.
Unlike their human pretenders - living trapdoors - who in the words of Anton LaVey, are individuals who drain others of vital energy. Psychic vampires, obstinate and petty fiddlers of emotions and stranglers of the soul, whose sugarcoated niceties are but a smokescreen for their ambitions in the lowest denomination of the human experience. They are adrift and cling to a goodhearted fool (male/female), suck this person dry of gifts and resources and then wander off for another victim, while not bringing much more in their own life that is without structure, direction and more-life-than life goals. They are the dregs of this world.
