Default What version of English were you taught in school?

    i.e. British-english, American-english, Australian-english, Indian-english, Singaporean-english, etc..

Do you find many differences between the various flavors of English around the world? For example to me I don't find all that many differences between Brit-english and American-english other than accent, some minor spelling alterations, and some idioms and slangs etc; Both English speakers although from disparate countries can converse with each other with not much difficulty at all for the most part.

Which version(s) of English do you find more advantageous under certain situations and more suitable for certain purposes? etc.. Who in general speaks the "better" English as a whole I wonder, would it be the Americans, or the Brits IYO?

Officially British English. At least until the end of high school. On English philology the story was more complicated. We had phonetics lessons, which were based on British English, however no one was correcting anybody if someone was speaking another variant on other classes. Lecturers were speaking British English, more or less.

British English then. But in practise as students we were speaking our own version of English, and as long as we weren't making some serious mistakes we were not corrected. Writing classes were based on British spelling.

Murican English, cause I'm a murican. When I was younger I had speech impairments though, and I studdered. This caused some of my lingual development to be delayed and in elementary school, I would get pulled out of class once a week for speech therapy lessons. I used to think me being trilingual causes that, but then I just realized that I had a speech issue and that was all.

British English in both India and Australia.
I don't exactly know what you mean by Indian English, unless you're talking of Hinglish which is a mix of Hindi and English(this obviously isn't taught at school). As far as I know English teachers in India are expected to teach standard(British) English, but I'm sure the quality would vary depending on the teacher/school.
I studied a GCSE based curriculum here in India anyways, so it doesn't matter.

I live in Scandinavia and the general consensus around here is that American English is so much easier to understand than British English (in a professional setting). Brits are notoriously known to slur their words and speak rather quickly compared to Americans that "enunciate every word". Of course, this is just limited to a business setting, no idea how everyone else really feels. In a university setting, everyone uses British English, although most literature is in American English (journal articles and recent book publications) - but that's only because the authors themselves are typically from the US. The older generation, however, speak British English because that is what they were taught. The younger generation is more exposed to American English (pop culture, etc), so the accent is American, but they write the British way.

I feel that American English has more of an advantage in an academic setting (where I'm at) because there are just fewer Americans in general. In a professional setting, it doesn't really matter as long as people can understand what you're saying.
