Austrians and Italians easily. Han Chinese is not even a homogeneous group.

What about the Southern Chinese who border Laos and Vietnam: how much do they overlap with their neighbours?

Maybe only the ones who are immediately adjacent to Laos. Even the Southern Chinese are not really homogeneous. The vast majority wouldn't really look Laotian.

But do you think that Austrians and Italians are especially similar? (Leaving aside, perhaps, far Northern Italians?)

Austrians and Northern Italians more so, less with Southern Italians.

But Han Chinese is a group with over a 1 billion population, covering a geographic area that is bigger than Europe minus Russia. You're comparing apples to oranges here.

And I dont even talk about almost full Europids like Türkmens, Tatars, Bashkirs, etc. Kazakhs, Khakassia etc are few fringes.

Han people are close to each other from Taiwan to Peking what I saw from Oracles

The part of China that borders Laos is Yunnan. Southern Yunnan isn't even Han majority. Even though southern Hans are a bit more southern shifted than northern Hans, they look more similar to northern Hans than Southeast Asians. Laos people have a bit of Negrito influence I think since they were the natives there. Austria and North Italy are definitely much more similar. South Tyrol is "Austrian" majority and they are not considered phenotypically distinct there.

The ones immediately adjacent to Laos are mainly Loloish (Yi) and Thai (Dai) people.
